ABOUT THE CHARACTERS:

Dr Ridhima Gupta

Ridhima is a warm hearted, kind and good-natured girl. The single most important thing in her life is to make her father proud of her achievements. She is intelligent and modern in her outlook on life, and yet respects and represents all the core Indian values. Quick to forgive and forget, at the same time she will not take blatant injustice lying down. Ridhima’s weak spot is Anjali, as she allows Anjali to always get the better of her due to her own sweet nature. Another intern, Armaan, irritates her to the point of losing her temper. She falls in love with Armaan but her ego drives them apart.

Dr. Armaan Mallik

22 year old Armaan represents the new age man; one who is self confident, efficient, cheeky, but yet a kind person at heart. He is also extremely handsome. His professional life is very important to him. He enjoys female company and is used to being the center of female attention and also knows how to sustain that attention. Armaan comes from an affluent family and has never wanted for anything ever in his life. Beneath the suave and confident exterior lies a focused doctor, whose sole aim is to outgrow the stigma of being the son of an alcoholic anaesthesiologist. He falls in love with Ridhima. His life is centered around Ridhima.

Dr. Anjali Gupta

Anjali at 22, is Shashank’s older daughter and is used to having her way. Extremely beautiful, she is quiet conscious of her looks and not above using them. She is manipulative and conniving. She is a good doctor in her own right, though she is never a favourite amongst the patients, owing to her to-the-point attitude. Her ultimate aim is to be the head of Sanjivani, as she will have power and respectability, and make her the fitting heir apparent to Shashank’s legacy. She will employ all the methods of saam, daam, dand and bhed to get whatever she sets her eyes on. She is also protective about Ridhima. Being her grandma’s favourite she helps set her father up with nurse Padma knowing he needs a life partner. Even though she is hounded by lovestruck Atul, she handles him with maturity, but starts developing some feelings for him when she realizes he loves her deeply.

Dr. Atul Joshi

Atul is the best guy friend a girl can ever have, without ever making him a real boyfriend. He is a good natured, easy going boy, who has become a doctor to fulfill the wish of his dead father. His father worshiped Sanjeevani and Shashank Gupta and he has come to pay his tribute to the man who adopted him. He is always treated like one of the girls when girlie talks are being discussed. When he realizes certain people cannot be changed, he empties trash, puts cups in trash and carries his own porcelain cup so that the use of Styrofoam cups in Sanjivani can be reduced. He likes Anjali but Anjali never takes him seriously.

Dr. Rahul Grewal

He is a smart, once-ugly new intern from Sanjivani Amritsar. Everyone in the college would laugh at him and all the girls would roam around with Armaan. He liked one girl-‘Sonia’in his college who in turn liked Armaan. He is now in Sanjeevani and is out to trouble Armaan. He does have a softer side.

Dr. Muskaan Chadda

She is a Punjabi chatter box and the new intern from Sanjivani Amritsar. Her family has known Rahul’s family for a while and was once engaged to him, but that didn’t work out. She hates Rahul. She loves her ‘Dhanu’ or her Scooty a lot. Dr. Keerti often lectures her because of her foolish but funny questions. She can make one laugh with her Punjabi jokes and bad words. She and Rahul are pretending to be married.

Dr. Shubhankar

He is the head cardiologist of Sanjivani and is very dedicated and efficient in his work. He lost his wife in an accident and was depressed about it, but in a period of time, he recovered from it. He has a small bubbly daughter. He likes Keerti a lot, but feels shy to tell her.

Dr. Keerti Mehra

She is the strict disciplinarian who gives her interns their duties and is very good in her work. She does not tolerate interns’ mistakes. She is strict but caring.

Nani

She is Dr. Smriti’s mother and is very sweet, loving and caring. She loves Ridhima and Anjali a lot. She knows that Shashank has feelings for Padma and as she lost her daughter, and she wants someone to take care of Shashank, Ridhima and Anjali. Hence, she and Anjali are matchmakers for Padma and Shashank.

Padma Gupta

She was the head nurse of Sanjivani and also is Ridhima’s birth mother. She quit her job when she married Shashank. She is very loving, caring, sweet and good at heart. She has placed herself as a family member of the Gupta family now.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Dill Mill Gayye is a show aimed at the urban educated youth. Set in the backdrop of a hospital it deals with the pressures, the drama, the romance, the inter personal relationships and humour in the lives of young doctors. Keeping the environment of a hospital in mind, the characters of the show are real, their issues are believable and the approach is dramatic, but never unreal, albeit emotional and fun filled.

It is one of the shows that is dedicated to the life just out of college. Although set in the background of a hospital it does relate to most of the youth.People do relate the stories with their lives. It has the romance, fights, competitiveness, friendships, and relations apart from the normal doctor and patient theory in the hospital.

Each and every character here has an importance and brings life to the show.Although the characters of Riddhima and Arman can be called the centre of attraction but thus topic can be really debateable as others are not less importance either.

As this is still running on television it has been the most watched by the youth. And if it ends in sometime to come it will definetly go on to break a lot of hearts, just the way it happened when Shilpa Anand left the role of Riddhima but it can be said that Sukriti Khandpal has really lived up to the expectations of the people for this character.

The school also entertains scholarship students, who come from the poorer section of the society. The story revolves around the students, their lives, their insecurities, friendships, rivalries, and ambitions.

Tia, Anvesha, Yuvi, and Ranveer, the four main characters, would rather have very little to do with each other. Hailing from different backgrounds, all of them seem to have their priorities worked out and prefer to follow their own path towards fulfilling their ambitions. But destiny has another trail set for them. Circumstances force them to come together and through a series of dramatic twists and turns, the four form a music group Remix and become the singing sensation of the decade.

The story also brings into play various other elements that shape the destiny of the four protagonists and the various other students, teachers and parents who form a bond with this elitist school. Touching upon the socio-economic divide, peer pressure, teenage dilemmas and other growing-up pangs, the show attempts to empathize with the adolescent in his quest for freedom.

THE LEADING CHARACTERS:

Tia Ahuja

The spoilt, rich, beautiful daughter of Sumeet Ahuja. She is exasperatingly self-centred, full of herself and a snob. She has a limited vies of life where only she, her makeup and her clothes exist. She is very spoilt by her dad, who gives her a lot of substitutes for not being there for her. But by heart se is shown to be a very caring, friendly and nice person.

Ranveer Sisodia

Ranvir Sisodia, belongs to a Rajput clan settled near Jaipur. He is rustic and different to the other chilled out kids in the school. He wears a sun earring in one ear, the emblem of his clan and a bhawani maa pendant which belonged to his (dead) father. Conventionally good looking, older than the other kids and coming from a different background than them, Ranvir pretty much stands out. He also has a different dialect from all the others at Maurya and uses “hum” and “aap” and words like “bana” etc which are alien to the other, primarily urban lot.

Anvesha Banerjee Ray

Spirited, spunky and downright crazy, Anvesha is a rebel for the heck of it. She has a complex that her film star mother gets and craves all the attention that she should be getting instead. She thus wants to be the centre of attention all the time too, but in the exact opposite way of her mother. She is wild and a prankster and will stop at nothing. She dresses wild , cares nothing for anyone and lives to shock. She is not a tom boy though, she fancies herself as sexy and wants to be in the dance group as well as get the summer camp teacher’s attention.

Yuvraj Dev

Yuvraj or Yuvi as he’s called is a good-looking, rich and spoilt boy. He is the son of a very important politician Yashwant Dev. Yuvi is a rogue, a manipulator to whom the end justifies the means. Repressed by his father at home, he is the exact opposite of what he is expected to beHe is selfish and has a drinking problem. His father belongs to the Jat clan but Yuvi has always lived in Mumbai and has no peculiar dialect. He in fact is a naturally cool and “with it” kid. A born leader, he is the hot favourite at school. >. Everyone expects him and Tia to get together, but they are both too arrogant and self-centred to be with each other.

THE SERIES:

This television soap took the people by surprise and in no time became an instant hit amongst the youth and generation next. This just like Hip Hip Hurray was shot at the backdrop of school life. But this one was centred around its four main characters and while others added life to the show as well.

When the show ended it did break a lot of hearts and this is a very big sign of a huge success. And as well the sequel to this show is one of the most awaited ones (if any) by most of the youth.

It did give us many famous slangs like:

  • Sufi (v): Don’t take too much tension, just play it Sufi (As in cool, it has nothing to do with the mystical Sufis and their music)
  • Banna (n): You are like my banna, so why worry? (friend, pal)
  • Puhleese (n): an extended version of please (often used by tia whenever she’s irritated)
  • How tacky (adj) : Eww..your behaviour is so tacky!! (as in disgusting!)
  • Too sweet for sweets (n): as in to say..no sweets for us (tia-pri-meher’s lingo)
  • Hey Bhaggu (n): Hey Bhaggu, I can’t get through this number (as in Hey Bhagwan, Oh God!)
  • Timbo (adj) : Tia, u are a Timbo (dumb, Ashi uses it often for Tia)
  • duh huh  :dumb
  • Wacko (n): God, You are a wacko!! (as in, an idiotic, dumb, and senseless person)

PLOT:

The story is based on the lives of 12th grade students at the DeNobly High School and their adventures, their fears and hopes, their relationships and interactions. Besides that the story also focuses on issues pertinent for the younger generation such as dating, careers, health, exams, causes in a light-hearted manner and many social activities.

The first season of the series more focused on the stars where they were in school flitting through life with joys and sorrows of life as students. But the second season focuses on students lives on campus. Each episode of the series takes you through the year spent by an exciting bunch of teenagers – a year during which they fall in love, and suffer heart-breaks, have problems with their teachers and parents, experience pressures at exam time and so on. Their trials and tribulations are captured poignantly and with rare sensitivity.

The way the teenagers live their lives definetly reminds one thier school and college days, the fun and excitement and the way they helped each other through their problems and how they had thier crushes on teachers. Every character here was a special one and that is what was very good about this show as like others it did not revolve around two or three characters. Here each and every character was given importance.

The first season released in 1999 that showed us about the school life was an instant hit and in no time became a cult show loved by most of the youth and yonger generation then.As a result to this a second season was released in 2001 which showed us about the college life although it did not really live up to its expectations specially after the first season and it was stopped early with no more seasons to it.

There have been quite a few television series after this which has foccused on the younger generation but this one definetly has been one the best.
