It is one of the toughest phases ahead that Roger Federer would have faced in past few years. He enters into Wimbledon 2013 as the defending champion, and if he fails to defend it he might just slip down to 4th rank in the ATP rankings which would be the first in close 10 years (has been in top 3 for the past 514 weeks). Also, if  Ferrer and Nadal manage to reach the quarter-finals stage (which probably they should) and Federer is unable to defend the title then he would move out of the top 4 to the 5th rank (he has been in the top 4 for the past 520 weeks- 10 years). But that is not the worry for him. The biggest challenge for him would be that, if he fails to make it to the finals at Wimbledon, he would surely move out of top 4, irrespective of how anyone else fares at the tournament, especially since he has a threat of facing Nadal in as early as the quarterfinal stage. Again, since he is also chasing history to become the first male player to win Wimbledon 8 times, there would be a lot of pressure on him.

Well this Wimbledon could not have got bigger for David Ferrer, as his consistent play over the past 1 year coupled with the absence of Nadal from the tourney has helped him accumulate a lot of points, and has given him a chance to rise in the rankings. His career-highest rankings have been 4th rank so far and this Wimbledon would give him a chance to rise to world number 2 if he finishes the tournament on a high. This also gives Nadal to get back in top 3 rankings this year. He has made a positive return since his injury winning 7 titles and reaching all the finals of the 9 tournaments he has played since comeback. A title win for Andy Murray can help inch closer to the number 1 ranking, so there is a lot up for stake for him as well.

Only Djokovic who stands as world number 1 would sit comfortably in the tournament, with his ranking to stay intact after the tournament ends. Though he would be skeptical of Nadal who has already taken a lot of strides towards the number 1 year-end rank.

Also, with Federer not getting any younger, is this the beginning of the end of a legendary career? Or would this have a sceond life?

TREATISE Completes 2 Years Online!!

It has been a great journey so far, definitely a very exciting one. Especially the last year where I have really evolved as a blogger.

Well it was exactly 2 years back that I started blogging or I can say I created this blog. Well for the kicks I started off with three blogs each one dedicated towards certain fields. Actually when I started I did not know much about the concept of tags and categories well that is why I started out with three different blogs, where actually my tags were written as categories and for different categories I had these three different blogs. After the first six months I transferred the content from the other two blogs to this one so that I could update a single blog more frequently.
It’s been a 18 months since then, and two years so far and I am very excited that I have come this far. When I look down the memory lane, I can see that the last year of blogging has been very good. I have tried to catch the eye of the readers all around the world and I can say I have been very successful, especially in the last 6 months when the response definitely has been overwhelming. In fact my blogging has increased in the last six months as compared to the previous months. But it is nowhere comparable to my first six months period. The viewing of the blog has increased in the past months, in fact it has multiplied by 3-4 times which has made me very much happy. In fact the last three months or so have been very good and I have been getting a very good response on the blog with the increased number of hits. The average number of hits has almost doubled to what they were 6-8 months back and I can say they have more than 5 times in the past I year.

If I talk just about this blog I started it basically only for television shows and television personalities. This blog recorded a lot of hits from India, US, UK and Pakistan showing how famous the Indian shows are all around the world. For the record, my blog received as many as 763 hits on 2nd June 2010.

This blog has so far recorded “109071” hits in the 2 years (it crossed the 1 Lakh mark or the 100 thousand mark or the six figure mark last month) while my other blogs the technical one had 4513 hits in about 5 months and my sports blog recorded 1823 hits in about 6 months of their being in existence. It has been 18 months since I had combined these three blogs and since then this blog has recorded “104455”hits. In the past one year I have recorded “92775” hits. Well 92775 hits in a year at an average of more than 254 hits a day is something very good to be happy of. This makes me even happier when I see that this blog has recorded “62934” in the past six months, which makes it almost a 343 hits per day at an average. Well more than 115000 hits in the 2 years months is a very good figure especially when it had close to 23000 hits in the first year. Something that astonishes me of the increasing popularity was the fact that in 2009 the post had about 23000 hits that is about 63 hits a day, a figure I was content and somewhat happy with as well. But to my amazement the blog has received about 84000 hits already in 9 months in 2010, that to at an average of more than 300 per day (which is 5 times it was last year). This is the figure that really makes me feel proud of the work done by me in the past 2 years.

Now coming to the individual posts. 19 posts have received above 1000 hits and of them 6 posts have received more than 2000 hits. 2 posts have received more than 5000 hits; in fact 1 post has managed to receive more than 10000 hits so far which is something I did not believe will happen about six months ago (definitely this post has been the major contributor towards the hits on the blog). Also as many as 46 posts have received more than 500 hits while 136 posts received over 100 hits. Well I think in about 160 posts 136 posts have received above a 100 hits is a very good sign for the blog (though this was 86% six months back and now it is 85% but still I am very happy about it). Well that indicates that a lot of the posts have been viewed and it’s not just a couple of them have been very famous. On second thoughts I can say that a couple of them have become very famous, especially that one post has.

As I said it has been difficult to maintain all the three of them together that is why at the end of first six months I decided to delete two of my blogs and transfer all the posts from them onto this blog as this was the first one that I created. Now for the past one year I just have had one blog to maintain and I really thought at the beginning that it would be a lot easier to update it regularly. But that has not been the story so far. I had written about 44 posts in the first six months (when I had three different blogs) and then I have just written about 17 posts (with only a single blog to update). Then after that in six months I have been able to put in 38 posts, while my last six months have had the maximum posts that are 60 posts updated making the count to 160 (this is also the highest number in the given period of six months). I sincerely hope that the kind of response I got in these 2 years, especially in the last six months and over the last year, I would be able to generate in the coming year also in fact even more. Well in these six months I have been able to touch many aspects in terms of topics while blogging (not concentrated towards one topic), and that is something I am really happy of.

One more thing that I would like to add is that now TREATISE is also ranked on Alexa and IndiBlogger. Though TREATISE was also ranked at Alexa about six months back, but in these six months it has managed to get under the 3,000,000 mark, which I feel is really very good. Also I had listed TREATISE on IndiBlogger last month and the rank and feedback shared by them was very good for the first month there. I will keep on updating on that once a couple of months are completed on the list there.

I had definitely made a few mistakes in my first six months, but since then I have been a lot more responsible and now in the last six months I have really evolved as a blogger. I hope that I can continue the good work and hopefully I will be able to attract a lot of people to my writings in the coming year.

This is one of the most shocking disasters in the recent times. An explosion in British Petroleum’s offshore oil rig at Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico has led to this massive oil spill. It has caused  It is causing a lot of loss in the economy, and that is not it, in fact it harming a lot of life in the sea, the birds, the fishes  and the other marine ecosystem. Here I am putting in some background of the oil spill.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill, also called the BP Oil Spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill or the Macondo blowout, is a massive ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, now considered the largest offshore spill in U.S. history. The spill stems from a sea floor oil gusher that started with an oil well blowout on April 20, 2010. The blowout caused a catastrophic explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil drilling platform that was situated about 40 miles (64 km) southeast of the Louisiana coast in the Macondo Prospect oil field. The explosion killed 11 platform workers and injured 17 others; another 98 people survived without serious physical injury.

Experts fear that due to factors such as petroleum toxicity and oxygen depletion, the spill will result in an environmental disaster, damaging the Gulf of Mexico fishing industry, the Gulf Coast tourism industry, and the habitat of hundreds of bird species. Crews are working to block off bays and estuaries, using anchored barriers, floating containment booms, and sand-filled barricades along shorelines. There are a variety of ongoing efforts, both short and long term, to contain the leak and stop spilling additional oil into the Gulf.

More than 400 species live in the islands and marshlands at risk, including the endangered Kemp’s Ridley turtle. In the national refuges most at risk, about 34,000 birds have been counted, including gulls, pelicans, roseate spoonbills, egrets, terns, and blue herons. As of May 30, dead animals collected from the spill include 491 dead birds, 227 sea turtles, and 27 dolphins.

I saw an article in The Hindu of 1st June, showing some images of the disaster. I am put up the images here.

OIL BLANKET: A supply vessel passes through an oil sheen near the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico near the coast of Louisiana.

LEAKAGE: This is an image of the video grab provided by BP PLC shows oil continues to erupt from the remains of their oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. After their latest attempt to plug the leak failed, BP is looking into other means of dealing with the leak.

PROTESTS GALORE: Protesters gather for a rally against BP PLC and the Gulf oil spill, in Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

TOURISM TAKES A BACKSEAT: Workers head to the beach to clean up oil residue in Grand Isle.

CLEANING IN PROGRESS: Workers clean up oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in Pass a Loutre.

FAILED EFFORTS: Deepwater Horizon oil rig is seen burning after an explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, off the southeast tip of Louisiana

OBAMA’S NEW HEADACHE: U.S. President Barack Obama and LaFourche Parish president Charlotte Randolph take a tour of areas impacted by the Gulf Coast oil spill in Port Fourchon.

THREAT TO WILDLIFE: Birds scatter along the shoreline where oil booms were placed in preparation of the looming oil spill of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig.

WILDLIFE IN DANGER: A dead sea turtle is seen along the shoreline in Breton National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife in the region is vulnerable to the looming oil spill.

LONGING FOR WORK: Out of work fishermen wait to sign up to help lay oil booms in Shell Beach. Fishing has been shut down East of the Mississippi River due to the oil spill.

Well this pictures made me write about this disaster. it is very sad to what has happened. Though everyone there is trying to sought out this problem but it has not enough. The issue still persists, and I hope that it is solved at the earliest.

I have had many ups and downs in the journey so far, but definitely it has been very exciting. It’s a great feeling today and I think it is just that more especially because of the fact that this is going to be my 100th post on the blog.

Well it was exactly 18 months back that I started blogging or I can say I created this blog. Well for the kicks I started off with three blogs each one dedicated towards certain fields. In fact the last three months or so have been very good and I have been getting a very good response on the blog with the increased number of hits. If I talk just about this blog I started it basically only for television shows and television personalities. This blog recorded a lot of hits from India, US, UK and Pakistan showing how famous the Indian shows are all around the world. For the record, my blog received as many as 376 hits on 2nd April 2010.  In fact my blog has not recorded less than a hundred daily hits since 25th December 2009, also it has not recorded less than two hundred daily in the past one and a half months.

This blog has so far recorded “46137” hits in the 18 months while my other blogs the technical one had 4513 hits in about 5 months and my sports blog recorded 1823 hits in about 6 months of their being in existence. It has been a year since I had combined these three blogs and since then this blog has recorded “41521”hits. Well 41521 hits in a year at an average of more than 113 hits a day is something very good to be happy of. This makes me even happier when I see that this blog has recorded “29841” in the past six months, which makes it almost a 165 hits per day at an average. Well more than 52000 hits in the 18 months is a very good figure especially when it had close to 23000 hits in the first year. Something that astonishes me of the increasing popularity was the fact that in 2009 the post had about 23000 hits that is about 63 hits a day, a figure I was content and somewhat happy with as well. But to my amazement the blog has received about 21000 hits barely 100 days into 2010, that to at an average of more than 210 per day. This is the figure that really makes me feel proud of the work done by me in the past 18 months.

7 posts have received above 1000 hits and of them 3 posts have received more than 2000 hits. 1 post has in fact managed to receive more than 2700 hits so far which is something I did not believe will happen about six months ago. This takes the tally to 99 posts, while this post is going to be my hundredth one, this is also one of the reasons why this post is special. I sincerely hope that the kind of response I got in these 18 months, especially in the last six months, I would be able to generate in the coming year also in fact even more. Well I think I have been concentrating on television shows more in the past six months.

I hope that I can continue the good work and hopefully I will be able to attract a lot of people to my writings in the coming year.

It’s been a roller coaster of 20 months I have had in here. They have been very good and enjoyable days as well as there have been many bad and forgettable days as well. I was very happy when I had joined Cybage, as I was one the first people to get a joining from my school batch and even the college batch. Something that I was very happy of then because many of my friends who were to join big companies got a much delayed joining. One of the biggest achievements I can boast about is that I survived the unforgiving recession period in here. I was hardly 5 months into the job that I got the first sight of the effects of recession way back in January 09. It was like one of the worst starts of a year.

This is the pic of our complete group. We were celebrating a birthday. This was just before the Recession struck. I am somewhere 4-5 from the right.

I was safe as I was into a project very early, but that month I lost a couple of friends who lost their jobs and became one of the first victims of recession. But by all this I realized that it’s not going to be an easy road ahead, and I should choose the safest path of further studies. I then decided to crack CAT that time. In the meanwhile my work also went of very well, but to my surprise the project got completed I came back on the bench (or the resource pool as we call it). Those were the scariest times, as every day I walked into the office thinking that it could be the last day in office. But on second thoughts I would call them as my best days here in the company, as we a group of friends here enjoyed the days. We literally had no work, so we would come in daily surf the internet, write posts on my blog, play flash games, chat, party, watch live score (IPL season 2 was going on those days) and then discuss about them rest of the time.

Thats Ashish, Shital, Pratibha, Girish, Shalini and Me

One of the Great examples of what we did during the Great Recession Period- "Youtube". Its me and Sachin here.

Then came May 1, the results of our appraisals were announced. We all knew that our salaries will not get increased but to our shock they go decreased (something none of us had expected). I thought that this was the toughest phase here, but there were plenty of hiccups lined up. The HR people started calling people 1 by 1 and gave them their relieving letter (a great way to fire people I must say). Quite a few of my friends were there in the victims list. I was expecting the call any day. I still remember it was 12th May and I got a call from the HR department that I have to meet our HR head. I took a back up of my machine and even sent a good bye mail to all of my remaining friends as I knew what the outcome of that meeting was going to be. But again to my surprise (they have been many of them in this journey of 20 months) I wasn’t fired, in fact I was advised to change my department, and suddenly my life changed (from bad to good, or is it really).

This change suddenly made me look a fresher all over again. I felt that I have just joined a new company. But luckily I still had a group of good friends here to give me support. Well now my life had really changed, I started liking the work, started enjoying what I was doing. So in way I can say that my life had changed from bad to good, but the exception to it was that now I had to work and had no other choice (I wasn’t doing any work for the past few months). In July I moved into a project called MicroStrategy and since then my life has been very smooth. I have had a very good project team, got to learn a lot technically from each one of them. The client has been very happy with the work done, which was finally reflected the appraisals of October 09. The only drawback of the team was that all of the members were women, so I had to be a bit disciplined (something that I am not), but they all were very helpful and I got to learn a lot from each one of them and also this helped me a lot in improving my interpersonal skills.

Me with the team (Anisha, Bharati, Me, Pooja and Sreelekha)

Now coming back to the appraisals topic. It was the month of October, although many people had left Cybage and many were on the verge of leaving it as the situation of the IT industry was improving. So the management decided to give increments to everyone in this appraisal. I was not expecting anything as what had happened six months ago was still fresh in my mind and its effects had just blocked my thinking. I actually did not expect anything in that appraisal. My meeting was fixed with my manager, lead and the head for 5th of October. During my meeting I actually realized that my situation was not bad at all. They all were impressed with my performance in the past 6 months. And all of that reflected in the appraisal report that I received on the 1st of November.

After this the life has been very good so far, except for a few instances when some of my good friends parted ways in search of a better living somewhere else. Also I enjoyed some great moments with my team in the various team meetings, whether they are knowledge sharing sessions (they are actually more of fun sessions than knowledge sharing) or they are monthly birthday celebrations, or they are team lunch outings, or even the Diwali funfair organization committee meetings,  all of them have been very good and exciting.

Me with the team

One of my very good friends Abhay left in the first week of December. I was sad that he was leaving, but was also very happy because he was going for his higher studies. Before he left, we (a small group of friends) sat down late nights in Coffee shops, chatting, discussing about the happy and sad moments we had been through in the last year. After Abhay left, I somewhat continued this trend of meeting up with friends and sitting late night. I along with Nilay and Mihir were regular members of these meetings. Many a times my other friends Raman, Vishal, and Najim would join in. We would sit late till 2 o clock in the morning at Costa Cafe (our regular Coffee joint), chat, drink coffee, eat and yes curse our company (this was one of the major and most common point that would occur on every meeting). Almost all of us were frustrated of our jobs by then, due to some or the other reasons, so we would vent it all out there (luckily I can say I was not, so would just listen to all of them). I really spent some of my great moments during those times. I am putting a few images; these were taken in January and that was nilay’s last day at work. So we all had gathered there to give him a kind of farewell.

Thats Najim, Nilay, Raman, Mihir, Me and Vishal

Thats Najim, Raman, Mihir, Me and Vishal. I guess Nilay is the one who has taken this pic.

Well this time its me and Nilay relaxing in Costa Cafe

After he left I guess the fun and excitement also has left our group. Nowadays we don’t sit that often in night (that time we used to twice or thrice a week, now we hardly sit once a month). Now I have completed 20 months in here. I have mixed feelings about this, neither sad nor happy. This may be because the appraisals are back and I am expecting a good increment again (happy) and also in these 20 months I have had to part ways with very good friends I made here in Cybage(sad).

Now I am looking forward to my completion of 2 years here (if that happens). Well as I had said earlier my CAT results are out and I have secured a 98 percentile. I am hoping that I get into one of the IIM’s, but if I don’t then probably I will stay with Cybage for another one year(I hope that this will also be pretty exciting as the last year, though I don’t want the recession effects to come back).

I will probably update next after my IIM results are out or when I complete my 2 years here at Cybage.

Completed My First Big Step in Blogging!!!

I guess this picture says a lot about my journey as a blogger for the past one year. It’s had many ups and downs, but definitely it has been very exciting. It’s a great feeling today and I think it is similar to the one Neil Armstrong must have had after taking his first step on moon, that is why I have added this picture as I have just completed my first big step in Blogging.

Well it was exactly a year back that I started blogging or I can say I created this blog. Well for the kicks I started off with three blogs each one dedicated towards certain fields. Actually when I started I did not know much about the concept of tags and categories well that is why I started out with three different blogs, where actually my tags were written as categories and for different categories I had these three different blogs.

It was difficult to maintain all the blogs and then updating all of them every month was not easy, I did try it for six long months. Then after that I deleted the other two blogs and imported all of their posts here in this one. When I look down the memory lane, I can see that the last year of blogging has been very good. I have tried to catch the eye of the readers all around the world and I can say I have been successful though not as much as I thought I would be when I started off but yes the response definitely has been overwhelming. In fact my blogging has reduced in the last six months but the viewing of the blog has not reduced. In fact the last two months or so have been very good and I have been getting a very good response on the blog with the increased number of hits.

If I talk just about this blog I started it basically only for television shows and television personalities. This blog recorded a lot of hits from India, US, UK and Pakistan showing how famous the Indian shows are all around the world. In fact my sports blog got as many as 240 hits on 18th January, which has been a record in all my three blogs at that time. After my shift to this blog, the blog received as many as 205 hits on 23rd September, which is a record since then.

This blog in the past year has recorded “16296” hits while my other blogs the technical one had 4513 hits in about 5 months and my sports blog recorded 1823 hits in about 6 months of their being in existence. Although this was my first blog that I started with and the other two followed so my shift to this blog can be justified. Well after the shift in about last six months I have got as many as “11680” hits on this blog. Well 11680 hits in last 6 months and close to 23000 hits in my first year is okay I guess.  5 posts have received above 500 hits and they are Dill Mill Gayye – The new Riddhima has arrived!!! with 746 hits, Karan Singh Grover with 609 hits, Dill Mill Gayye with 606 hits, Dill Mill Gayye – New Interns Coming soon! with 564 hits, and Hip Hip Hurray with 505 hits. Also as many as 32 posts received over 100 hits. Well I think in about 60 posts 32 posts have received above a 100 hits is a very good sign for the blog. Well that indicates that a lot of the posts have been viewed and it’s not just a couple of them have been very famous.

As I said it has been difficult to maintain all the three of them together that is why at the end of first six months I decided to delete two of my blogs and transfer all the posts from them onto this blog as this was the first one that I created. Now for the past six months I just have had one blog to maintain and I really thought at the beginning that it would be a lot easier to update it regularly. But that has not been the story so far. I had written about 43 posts in the first six months (when I had three different blogs) and since then I have just written about 17 posts (with only a single blog to update). Maybe I just ran out of topics to update but I think the main cause of this has been that I was a lot busy in the last six months, but definitely I have always tried to update at least one post every month if not more. I sincerely hope that the kind of response I got in the first year I would be able to generate in the coming year also in fact even more. I will try to be a lot more regular in updating and that is why I have asked one of my very good friends Mihir Patel to join this blog as an author. He basically will be posting a few computer based topics (technical articles). I guess I needed him a lot since I have not been able to post any technical article for a long time now (7 months to be precise that is not even a single one in the last six months). Well I think I have been concentrating on television shows more in the past six months. Mihir just posted his first last week, and I hope that he too will be regular on the blog.

It’s a year that has been completed or I can say my blog has completed a revolution around the sun. So I think the next picture is very much relevant to the status of the blog as of now. It’s one year over and my blog is celebrating its first birthday, and definitely counting for many more to come. I had definitely made a few mistakes in my first six months, but since then I have been a lot more responsible and that can also be one of the reasons why I have not been able to update more in the last six months. I hope that I can continue the good work and hopefully I will be able to attract a lot of people to my writings in the coming year.

As I said it has been difficult to maintain all the three of them together that is why at the end of six months I have decided to delete two of my blogs and transfer all the posts from them onto this blog as this was the first one that I created. So in the process yesterday I completed all the transfer work and have finally deleted my other blogs. Now I just have one blog to maintain and I think it will be a bit easier to do that. I sincerely hope that the kind of response I got in the first six months I would be able to generate in the coming six months also infact even more.

At the end I would like to thank a good friend of mine Shubhendu Trivedi who actually motivated me to blog. I have definitely made a few mistakes in my first six months and I apologize to my readers for them but I would say it was my first time and since now I am six months old I have learnt a lot and will try to blog more responsibly in the coming time.

Hello world!
